The Codex Albeldensis or Vigilanus, written in Visigothic script in 976, is a collection of decrees from the councils of Hispania and abroad and also includes the Liber Iudiciorum, the civil legislation applied in Spain until the thirteenth century. The decorative miniatures are extremely varied, on occasion forming a series of arches that frame the text. Among the beasts we can find serpents, roosters, asps, crocodiles, dragons, basilisks, etc. Sometimes the illustrations of animals appear as isolated decorative elements and others, as animal motifs interwoven with the letters. The illustration on the right with the interwoven motif is part of the letter I. |
